Program Description

Event Details

This year's Summer Reading Program theme is "All Together Now" and we have some great programs planned around the theme. In addition to our regularly scheduled programs, we'll have live animal programs, arts and crafts for all ages, and a boatload of reading recommendations! Program ends on July 31, 2023.

If you haven't already, register at Beanstack to track your reading this summer and all year round! There's also a great app available for both iOS and Android operating systems.

A special thanks to all of our Sponsors:

Why Should You Participate in the Summer Reading Program?

Children learn about communication, language, storytelling, and letters long before they actually learn to read and write, and this is where early literacy comes in. Research on early literacy and child development indicates that it is never too early to start preparing children for reading success. Children who have been read to from an early age have a larger vocabulary, acquire better language skills, and are more likely to want to learn to read than children who have not been read to. In addition, research has shown that children need to develop certain skills in order to fully benefit from the reading instruction they receive when they arrive at school.

Children between the ages of three and eight are hands-on explorers who make personal, meaningful connections with abstract materials (book and story concepts) when they are provided with opportunities to play with story themes. For Independent Readers, the process is simple: A goal is set, then children read on their own, record the information, and receive rewards throughout the program.

Too often, teens are slighted when it comes to library programs and materials. Teens are working to gain independence, excitement, trying to figure out their identities, and are seeking acceptance. Fortunately, the library can help teens fulfill their needs at this unique stage of life by providing space for teens, a positive experience, and a welcoming environment.

Adults look forward to summer as much as kids do! You can relax, take vacations, and catch up on reading, and that makes summer a great time! Adult summer reading programs offer adults the opportunity to have fun, explore new interests, and interact with one another while also providing a good model for children enrolled in summer reading programs.
