Program Description

Event Details

This graded class for students in grades 10 through 12 counts as 1 credit toward high school graduation requirements.  The 90-minute class will meet for 18 weeks, divided into three 6-week sessions. There are no prerequisites, however previous IEW experience and concurrent or previous enrollment in an Analytical Grammar class is strongly advised.  Session 1 will meet from January 7 through February 11 in the Community Room, except for the first Thursday of each month, when class will be held in the Story Castle.

The High School Essay Intensive is a combination DVD seminar (led by Mr. Andrew Pudewa, IEW’s founder) and teacher-led class. The lessons provide hands-on, practical experience in high school essay writing, including text analysis, response-to-literature prompts, and the personal essay for college/university applications. The content also addresses the new ACT® and redesigned SAT®, offering tools and tips for student success in the timed essay portions of those tests. The course is prepared with distance-learning backup via Zoom.  Please see the attached document for additional details, including required course materials.

Cost is $117 per 6-week session, plus a one-time, non-refundable $15 supplies/services fee due upon enrollment ($5 discount for enrollment
and first payment by 12/1/20).  Each session payment is due 1 week before the session begins. Payments made after the first day of class (any session) are subject to a $10 late fee per week.  Please remember that your registration is not official until you have completed payment to the instructor, Daryl Kessler.
