Junior Analytical Grammar/ Mechanics (w/Zoom backup), Tuesdays 11:30am-12:30 pm
Grammar lays the groundwork for constructive communication, and the analytical study of grammar is the foundational “why” underlying the “how” of its practical usage. Using a systematic approach, each unit of the Analytical Grammar curriculum effectively builds on the previous lessons without needless repetition. This 24-week grammar course for students in grades 4-6 covers the following aspects of grammar:
• All the parts of speech, five sentence patterns, and parts of a sentence
• Classic sentence diagramming
• Six comma rules
• Capitalization
• Titles, dialogue, quotations, and possessives
• Usage units on agreements and word choice
During class, students read, highlight, and annotate the notes section of a unit and work together through many examples in the accompanying exercises. Parsing and diagramming sentences provides a more visual layer to each aspect under study. At home during the week students focus on the skills and concepts addressed in that lesson, building on those learned in the previous units. At this level of study, the AG curriculum does not extensively cover phrases, clauses, or usage errors. Please see class overview for complete details and payment information.
$72 per 6-week session, plus one-time $20 usage fee due with first payment
