February theme: Design Challenge - Unconventional Materials

We'll read Young Frank, Architect by Frank Viva, which tells the story of a young boy who likes to make things using unconventional materials like macaroni, toilet paper rolls, and spoons. Frank and his grandfather spend the afternoon exploring the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. They wonder at the displays of Frank Lloyd Wright and other famous architects. They find a particular interest in the chairs designed by artists like Eames and Gehry. Inspired by these works of art, the two go home and build some chairs of their own. MakerSpace participants will be inspired to do the same using unconventional materials that we will provide. We'll also talk about what defines the idea of a chair and how they can reimagine what that means.

An introduction to STEM concepts through crafts, games, and other activities designed for first, second, and third graders.

MakerSpace 123 meets on the fourth Wednesday at 5:00 PM in the Maker Space (formerly The Craft Room).

Registration is required so that we can ensure adequate supply levels!
